Playing with Textures

I am having a blast playing Minecraft, especially creative mode. After recently being exposed to all the different texture packs available, I've gained a slight new obsession in finding some cool textures for my worlds. So far, the one's that I have tried out are Dragon Dance, Ovos Rustic Redemption, Soartex_Fanver, and OzoCraft. I'm going to give a bit of a run down of each pack and my likes and dislikes about them.

Let's start with Dragon Dance. This pack changes everything aside from the mobs and the newer blocks like andesite and diorite. This pack also didn't change anything from the nether. But what do I like about it? I love how bright everything is. The colors are happy, the textures are fairly smooth and I'm not overwhelmed by a lot of changes. However, when you go into the crafting table or your inventory, it's the same look as the original Minecraft texture which does take away from the other really nice designs. I'm okay with the mobs not being different but I feel that the screens for crafting should be similar to the world's look. One thing that I am absolutely in love with is the stained glass. It's not just a one color glass, there is a design on the glass and I personally enjoy it while in creative mode. For those looking for a happy texture with cool designs but avoiding being overwhelmed, this is a good pack.

Next is Ovos Rustic Redemption. It has a medieval feel to it and everything blends in rather well. Instead of being bright and happy, it's moody and more toned down. In this pack, everything is changed. The mobs look different, all of the new blocks are changed and even the nether is changed as well. They really went all out in this one and it's a really good look. Even the furnace, inventory and crafting table screens are different and it goes well with the texture. Now, if you didn't notice, I really loved the stained glass from Dragon Dance. Ovos glass is pretty lame considering that their theme has a medieval look to it. I would've liked to have seen a cool medieval design for the glass rather than a one color block. Since I prefer creative mode it was a bit of a downer for me (this is after all, an opinion). But, putting that small detail aside, it's still an amazing looking texture pack with lots of personality.

Let's move on to Soartex_Fanver. From here one, you won't hear me out on the stained glass because all of them are pretty much the same so, MOVING ONWARD! This is one of the smoothest textures out of the the four that I am reviewing. Like Ovos, this pack also changed everything. The mobs look really good and everything really just fits together. One thing that I love that they changed was the sun and moon texture. These two look fabulous and very realistic. Yeah, to describe this pack would be to say that it's realistic. And it's not weird kind of realistic, it sticks to the realm of Minecraft but smoother and more life-like. Everything is also bright and happy which helps to make it feel more real. I also enjoy the textures for the resource blocks. From coal to diamond, they are all bigger and each has a nice design. To criticize, the lava looks like melted Cheetos to me and the water is a little more murky and green which was a little disappointing. Otherwise, this is yet another good pack.

Now, I feel a bit bad for OzoCraft. This one has a lot of things that I like but then...well lets talk about it. The world looks really good, the texture is similar to Ovos with the medieval look and sets a nice mood. But it felt ruined with the screens for crafting and the inventory. It looks more modern and sleek rather than rustic and old fashioned. Textures like the sun, moon and lava (the lava is awesome, it really looks really realistic) were amazingly well done and really added to the world. The domestic mobs look fine as well but the hostile mobs not so much. Especially the zombie. They added some custom music and sounds, which intrigued me at first. So, now the zombie sounds really creepy (which should work but for some reason it doesn't) and there is a really freaky song that starts with a creepy man saying "I love you". Goodness gravy, I exited out of that pack like a frog in boiling water once I heard that so called "song". I really like the look of this pack but, for me, the other things just didn't mesh well and it turned from an awesome pack to an "okay" pack with some cool textures. I personally am going to delete it from my computer because it just doesn't go with my type of gameplay.

Please understand that this is solely my opinion and I am just giving reasons as to what I liked and disliked from these packs. Because I am more into the creative side of Minecraft versus the survival one, I am going to stick mainly to Dragon Dance. I am going to try and add some screenshots of these packs to give a general idea of each one to help you, my dear reader, decide which pack you like best. THANKS!
